ABOUT 'BRANIKA' NORWEGIAN ELKHOUNDS
BRANIKA Norwegian Elkhounds are based in Scotland, East Ayrshire near Kilmarnock.
I started my show career, in the early 90's whilst still in my mid teens under the guidance of Aitken Johnston, with Japanese Spitz later changing to whippets when my eldest daughter wanted to try her hand at junior handling.
I then became interested and then fell in love with the Norwegian Elkhound breed.
My story with Norwegian Elkhounds began back in 2006 when I made the journey down to Towcester to Margaret Harper's Ravenstone Kennel, to collect my much longed for puppy, Ravenstone Toast Master (Bragi) this was where my real love for the breed began Bragi was everything you could want in a puppy an adorable bundle of fur whom I instantly fell in love with.
Margaret encouraged me to show and consider breeding, this had always been something I had though about but I had never really been in a position to consider it until now.
She advised me of a potential litter from Barbara Barganska (Barbelka) in Bristol and indicated that a bitch from this litter would be a good potential mate for Bragi. 8 weeks later we made the journey to Bristol to collect Anika (Barbelka Motyl). Anika was such a sweet baby with a fantastic nature I felt so lucky to have my foundation bitch
We had fantastic start with both puppies doing brilliantly in the show ring. Bragi winning a CC and Anika a RCC.
Branika was founded in 2009 when our first litter was born consisting of 2 Bitches and 5 Dogs this was our 'A'Litter.
Showing has had to take a back seat for us due to family commitments and location.
